Who is the course for?
The course is aimed at anyone wanting to improve their written English skills and have the confidence to place their apostrophes in the right place.
By taking the course you will not only be improving your written English skills, you will also gain an accredited certificate to show current or future employers that you have attained a proficiency in written communications. The course also includes a section on applying for jobs making sure your covering letter and curriculum vitae have a fighting chance to get beyond the initial sift.
Accurate communication is very important for a business; a typo or spelling mistake can invite complaint letters, cause costly misunderstandings and even lose sales. So, there is very good reason why improving the standard of English is so important in organisations.
How does this course work?
Take the course anywhere
The course is taken entirely online, so you can take the course from any PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone that has an internet connection.
Varied activities
Working through the course, you will read short texts, watch videos and answer questions. When you answer questions, your results are stored in your Grade book and at the end of each section, you complete an assignment that you submit online and is marked by your tutor.
Personal tutor
Your personal tutor will give you feedback on your assignment and help you through the course and be there to answer any of those head-scratching queries you may have.
Work at your own pace
You have three months to complete the course, which is more than enough time. However, if you should need more time, then let us know and we can extend the course for a small fee.
Completing the course
You will need to achieve a pass mark of 75% to complete the course and receive your certificate. If certain activities or assignments fail to achieve this level then you will be able to retake these parts.
A certificate is sent out to you with two weeks of completing the course.
How long will it take me to do the course?
One benefit of online learning is that you can work at your own pace. The course should take between 30 and 50 hours depending on how much thinking you need to do.
Will I get a certificate?
Yes, on successful completion of the course you will be sent a certificate within two weeks.
Do I need to be an expert on English grammar to pass?
Not at all, the course is aimed at those who have been speaking English a long time, but haven’t received enough education on grammar at school. However, by the end of the course, you will be a lot more confident and may even consider yourself a bit of an expert.
Do I need to be an expert in computers to do the course?
No, but you do need to be able to handle a mouse! You also need access to the internet while completing the course. On some of your assignments you can work offline, in fact, it is good practice to save your longer assignments offline just in case your connection ‘times out’ or breaks.
Who will be making sure I am doing the course in the right way?
We have a network of tutors online who have years of English teaching experience who will guide you through the course at a pace that suits you.
Can I fail?
The course is designed so you can pass it, as long as you make the effort. If you fail a particular activity then you can retake it at no extra cost, you can also learn from your tutor’s feedback and resubmit assignments. Some will take longer than others to pass the course.
What if I disagree with something in the course?
That would be brilliant as it shows you are learning from the course so please let us know on the forums.
How long do I have to complete the course?
You have 3 months to complete the course.
What if I need more time?
Then you can buy time at £15 per week or £40 per month.
I don’t feel I can pass the course on my own, I want to cheat.
Don’t copy, we have ways of checking for plagiarism. If you are having problems with the course, then let us know and we’ll move heaven and earth to help you through it.
When can I do the course?
You can log into the course whenever you like and continue from where you left off. When you submit an assignment, you need to allow 48 hours for a response (not including weekends and bank holidays). If you want to receive your feedback in less than 24 hours then you can sign up for Speedy Marking at £10 and this will apply for the duration of your course.
Do I need to be an English speaker to do the course?
No, but you do need to have a good enough level to follow the course, we recommend that you are one of the following levels as a minimum:
Cambridge Advanced certificate
Common European Framework C1
TOEFL 627
IELTS 7.0
